Welcome to our School
Welcome to our website. We hope that this gives you a flavour of our school and the exciting learning and experiences that go on here.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the 1st World War. As a school we feel it is really important to remember the sacrifice made by all service men and women not just in this war but in wars since. The children have been thinking about this today and have been creating work for displays around school. Children have been writing poems and letters and making poppies. On Monday we will be having a special remembrance assembly.
Highfield 90th Birthday
On 20th September we celebrated our 90th birthday with a party in school. The children were entertained by CJ Tazz in the hall and had a great time. At the same time our visitors including former teachers the Mayor of Chorley and Lindsey Hoyle MP looked at some old photographs of the school through the ages. The Mayor then raised a toast and danced with the Y5 and 6 pupils. The children had party food that they had made for each other. The following week we had a small fair visiting. Roll on our 100th!
We are Reading
World Book Day saw the launch of Lancashire’s year of reading. As a school, we have signed up to the ‘We are Reading’ campaign and will continue to promote reading throughout the year. During the year of reading, we are committed to: Becoming a reading school. Seeking out every opportunity to improve standards in reading within our school. Encouraging reading for pleasure. Enabling children to read in depth in a wide range of subjects, deepening their knowledge and understanding across the curriculum. Working with other schools, our local library and other partners to promote reading as a life-long skill. The campaign is aimed at all-ages, from babies to grandparents, to encourage reading for pleasure and to improve standards in reading across the curriculum. Further details will follow but for now GET READING.
